expect for the workweek. >> developing news in cupertino this morning where a fire is burning at a cement plant. fire officials say it broke out around 5:40 a.m. at the lee-high hanson quarry. a loading truck caught fire, and now tires are smoldering. the lee-high plant was the site of tragedy in 20-11, when an employee shot and killed three people. >> in menlo park, a mother and her two year old son are in stable condition this morning after being hit by gunfire. police say the shooting is possibly gang related. gunshots were heard in the area of willow road and bayfront expressway around 7-45 last night. the victims though were found at a mc-donalds parking lot on university avenue. >> what we found were several shell casings. at the palo alto there were five people, with four adults and one the child.

two of the people were shot inside of the car. the 21 year-old female and her two year-old child. it was on top of her lap. at this point of the victim's art at stanford hospital in stable condition. my understanding is that the injuries or wounds to the leg. the mother also, has wound to the lake with stable conditions after none-life threatening injuries at this time. >> so far, no suspects are in custody. the vehicle they were in is described as a dark green 2000s model honda sedan. meantime, a second deadly shooting happened a short distance away on capitol avenue around 9 last night. but police say it appears to be un-related to the earlier incident. >> police in east palo alto are investigating a shooting that left a 21-year-old man dead last night. we have new video of the scene this morning.

ting happened around 9 p.m. in the 22- hundred block of capitol avenue. officers found the victim dead at the scene. he has been identified as lamont coleman of east palo alto. right now, police do not have any suspects in custody. the countdown to the super bowl is about to hit its final stretch. we are just one week away from the big game. today. the team will leave the bay area and head to thekron 4's mike pelton joins us live outside niners headquarters in santa clara. good morning mike. >> good morning, the players have already entered, and parked. as they make their way towards new orleans they are just one week away from the super bowl. the next seven days will be practicing in new orleans.

>> we are back at 8:10 at least 245 people are dead following a nightclub fire in southern brazil. you're looking at youtube video of the fire. officials say it broke out at a club in the city of santa maria while a band was performing. there are reports from military police the band's

pyrotechnics started the blaze. at least 200 people haven also been injured. many in a panicked dash to the exits which were hard to find. the deadly event reminds us of a similar nightclub fire in rhode island in 2003. 100 people died in that incident. >> mass burials are being held in egypt today following violent protests that has left dozens of people dead. angry residents went on a rampage yesterday after a court handed down death sentences to almost two dozen fans involved in a deadly riot at a soccer game last year. here is video from that soccer game. the protests in the city of port said are the latest in a bout of unrest across the country that has left 48 people dead since friday. >> new this morning. police say a person ejected from a vehicle in oakland will probably not survive. a two car crash in the upper

diamond neighborhood happened around 2 a.m. police have not released any identifying information about the victim. both cars were driving the speed limit, and police say alcohol was not a factor. however the cause of the crash is under investigation. newly posted youtube video is raising concerns about possible excessive use of force by san francisco police. take a look. it shows an officer agressively detaining a man. it happened just outside the 24th street bart station this past thursday. police say the man was fighting with another man prior to the recording. they say the man in the video walked away from officers when they told him to stop. >> use of force is never pretty but california law does allow a law enforcement officers to use whatever an arrest. in this case you see the officers holding down the suspect until reenforcements arrive. >> police say although the video looks excessive, officers made the arrest by the book. the suspect was sighted for resisting arrest.

cool air. mild conditions but plenty of sunshine in store. >> the c h p has been issued for the northbound 280 the freeway is littered with debris. on knownot known how may people have been involved with one car that was caught fire after rolling over. three lanes are closed. meanwhile,the grace period is over. starting today, officers in san francisco will now ticket cars at expired meters. on january 6th the city initiated parking meter charges on sundays between noon and 6 p-m. but up until now, officers

have only given out warnings at expired meters. now parkers run the risk of a ticket that will cost between 62 and 72 dollars. >> a large turnout saturday at a gun buyback event in san mateo county. it was so successful organizers had to open the gates early to keep cars from blocking traffic. those who turned in their rifle, handgun or shotgun were given 100 dollars. 200-dollars were given for assault weapons. congresswoman jackie spier hopes the gun buyback leads to less crime. but critics have long argued that there is a lack of evidence to prove that. >> for every one gone we take off the street is one less potential for a death, murder. >> officials also collected a 100 and 300 round capacity magazines, a sawed-off shotgun and a street sweeper revolver. r all told, more than 63- thousand dollars was handed out at saturday's event. more than 700 firearms. including 24 assault weapons, 338 hand guns and 371 long guns were collected. the san mateo county sheriff's office will issue

dick heller was there. >> "it's a dangerous city when people are disarmed." >> reporter: both rallies come a day after vice president joe biden hit the road to promote the president's plan for new firearm laws. several high-powered speakers addressed the crowd at the gun control march. but perhaps the most powerful testimony came from colin goddard. a survivor of the 2007 massacre at virginia tech. >> "we need to challenge any politician who thinks it's easier to ask an elementary school teacher to stand up to a gunman with an ar-15, than it is to ask them to stand up to a gun lobbyist with a checkbook." (cheers & applause) >> reporter: the independent firearm owners association president says gun violence won't be solved with a ban. >> "what is going to be the impact on the future ban of those magazines and guns on criminals or crazy people? zero. nada." >> reporter: but lori bennett hopes for better odds than that. >> "the bottom line is, we can't prevent all the violence, but if adam lanza went into that school without all those bullets, lives would've been saved." >> reporter: chris mozingo,

her has no income. fundraiser next month. thousand for attorney fees and costs for her criminal defense lawyer. court papers list anthony as unemployed, with no recent income. >> a shocking case of animal cruelty has been uncovered in new york. authorities have removed dozens of dead cats and many more live ones from a home upstate. the gruesome discovery was made at a house near the catskill mountains. police rescued 99 live cats from the house. they found five dead cats and 62-kittens in a freezer at the residence. animal rescue officials say they've never seen anything like it. the house has now been condemned. >> chicken wing lovers can breathe easy -- there will be enough wings for your super bowl gathering this year. rumor of a chicken wing shortage left some snackers in a panic. last summer's drought pushed corn and feed prices up and

million dollars. despite being a football fan, president obama says he might not let his daughters play the game. the dangers of football are becoming better known. earlier this month, linebacker junior say-ow's family sued the n-f-l. they claim football caused brain trauma that resulted in his suicide. now, the president says he believes the game will have to change over time to protect players. he also says he worries more about younger players than those in the n-f-l. scientists say football players are three to four times more likely to die from brain diseases. tens of thousands of pro- life demonstrators descended on downtown san francisco saturday. they were opposing roe versus wade. the historic supreme court case that gave women the right to an abortion. this week marked the 40th anniversary of that decision. decades later, controversy from that decision continues. >> across the country 70% of people believe in row, so i'm optimistic we're gonna continue to move forward. it was 1973 when the supreme court recognized a woman's right to choose an abortion. this sea of people believe a medical decision should be made between a woman and her doctor.and say they each have to do their part to protect that choice. >> we have to keep

defending row and defending the rights of women to make their own decisions on their bodies legally, but there's also a more profound fight about access and affordability and insurance coverage and about making sure that people especially in rural areas have access to it. >> reporter: advocates say the threat in the state of california is services, and preserving those services under the budget. as they take to the streets and defend their right, they think about other states that are not as fortunate. >> we can't expect other states where choices are more threatened than it is here in california, if we aren't willing to take to the streets and defend. >> reporter: access to contraception is an issuesomething sandra fluke says both sides should >> even people that have disagreements about abortion access. we should all be able to make sure that women have access to the that they can choose when to start their families.

>> reporter: while that pro choice group of people gathered at justin herman plaza, tens of thousands of pro-lifers filled civic center. these people say "let god plan parenthood". they want to 'stop abortions'. they believe life starts at conceptionlauren and scott frybarger are expecting their first child and say god gave them the gift of life and they're embracing it. >> all life is a precious gift from god and i think that god has blessed me with this child so it would be selfish if i destroy that innocent life that he's blessed me with. >> reporter: marching down market streetsome with children in tow feel life is beautiful, and each one is a blessing. >> every baby deserves to live. because you can't see a baby doesn't mean they are not human. human life starts at conception, and god has commanded us to respect life until our natural death and not interfere with that. we pray that will happen in our country one day. >> we're here to save the innocent lives of babies because they're being brutally murdered.

>> a movie about the last day in the life oscar grant has been awarded two top prizes at the sundance film festival. grant was shot and killed by bart police officer johannes mehserle back on new year's day in 2009. the film called "fruitvale" picked up two awards for dramatic film at sundance.

dead following a nightclub fire in southern brazil. police say there was only one way out of the building. officials say it broke out santa maria while a band was performing. there are reports from military police the band's pyrotechnics started the blaze. at least 200 people haven also been injured. many in a panicked dash to the exits which were hard to find. the deadly event reminds us of a similar nightclub fire in rhode island in 2003. 100 people died in that incident. >> mass burials are being held in egypt today following violent protests that has left dozens of people dead. angry residents went on a rampage yesterday after a court handed down death sentences to almost two dozen fans involved in a deadly riot at a soccer game last year. here is video from that soccer game. the protests in the city of port said are the latest in a bout of unrest across the country that has left 48 people dead since friday. >> new this morning. police say a person ejected about the victim. newly posted youtube video is raising concerns about possible excessive use of force by san francisco police. take a look. it shows an officer agressively detaining a man. it happened just outside the 24th street bart station this past thursday. police say the man was fighting with another man prior to the recording. they say the man in the video walked away from
